From time to time, in my reading, I encounter excerpts of descriptive writing that strike me so forcibly that I feel moved to share them. The following anonymous piece comes from a book titled With Fife and Drum, True Stories of Military Life and Adventure in Camp and Field, Told at First hand by Officers, Privates and Other Eyewitnesses, edited by Alfred H. It’s hard not to be envious of New Zealand. While other parts of the world – Australia, the UK and the USA in particular – are suffering from the virus, New Zealand seems hardly to feel the effects at all. The Murdoch virus, that is. “Turning a blind eye” is what NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian is in trouble for, apparently. She was in a close personal relationship with one of those shonky characters who infest the profession of politics in huge numbers, using their contacts to line their pockets, often at the expense of the public.
